This could be the number one most asked question in regards to resveratrol... how much resveratrol should I take? The answer is not that simple however! In actuality there may not even be a correct answer to the question. This is my first post addressing proper human dosages but it certainly won't be the last.
A major misconception about what a proper dose is comes from the many research studies done on rats and mice. You have to realize that the doses given in these studies CAN NOT be transferred over identically to humans. Why you might ask? The reason is not so complicated but determining the correct human dose is. Mice are obviously very different from humans; they have different metabolisms, smaller surface areas, and there cell structure is not identical to humans.
Remember my posts on bioavailabity and pharmacokinetics? Metabolism plays an important roll on how much of a drug makes it to it's intended target. Pharmacokinetics also determines what our body does to the drug and how it passes through our digestive system.
To make this topic even more difficult we can take it a step further. We know mice and humans are different but you also have to realize that between individuals there are numerous differences. One persons metabolism may be faster then another's, thus causing less or more bioavailability in their systems.
I know, I know... get on with the answer to the question! Every month it seems the answer is different. It was originally thought that you could tests levels of resveratrol via urine tests. Now it seems plasma tests are the "in" way to measure levels. Once these levels are measured and compared to the dose of resveratrol taken you can determine how much more or less you need to take. But how much is it you need to take? There are a few trains of thought on this subject and in "part 2" I'll go into them in more detail.
For now, understand that resveratrol research is in it's infancy. We can only assume what is correct "at this moment in time" based on the stages of scientific research that have been accomplished to date.

Update: Part 2 will be posted by Monday night complete with research references and actual dosage recommendations.

I had health teacher who is a doctor of chiropractics tell me that the daily amount that your body needs to get the benefits is 1000 glasses of wine a day.
