I know what you are thinking... what a ridiculous question! The fact is I am sure plenty of women take t-res but I've come across only a few in a public forum. I've been contacted by a couple of women who were looking for more information but I wasn't very comfortable giving any recommendations as my knowledge is limited on its effects on women.
If there are any women reading this blog I ask you to please chime in and leave a comment with your personal experiences. How did you hear about resv? What are you hoping to get out of it? Are there any female specific concerns or benefits you've come across or personally experienced?
Feel free to either leave a comment below this post or go to the "Share Your Personal Resveratrol Experience" page and post it there.
Here is some information I've found regarding resveratrol and women:
trans-Resveratrol is a phytoestrogen, a naturally occurring non-steroidal compounds that are similar in structure to steroidal estrogens such as the naturally produced estradiol in women. The most commonly researched effects this could have on women is with regards to HRT Drugs, or Hormone Replacement Therapy medications such as progestin and premarin.
HRT is most commonly used for women who are post-menopausal to help give them hormones (estrogen) they lose as they age. These therapies help to balance the hormonal levels that tend to fluctuate throughout menopause. The problem with these therapies is they have been found to carry the risk for serious side effects, including breast cancer, strokes, heart attack, and blood clot risks.
As shown in a study done in 2001, "Benefits of Resveratrol in Women's Health", t-res had similar beneficial effects as these drugs without the risks of the side effects caused by them. They also showed positive effects on bone health and present the possibility for more research towards helping osteoporosis.
More recently studies show t-res may help to prevent breast cancer. You can find out more regarding breast cancer and resveratrol research by reading "Resveratrol May Prevent Breast Cancer."
Have any studies to add? Please post your research below.

Hi
I'm 33 years old, it is a good age to start taking this medicine??
Thanks

Hi Jackie,
I think starting a healthy routine, and one that includes anti aging supplements, is good to start in your late 20's early 30's. Something to keep in mind is whether or not you are thinking about getting pregnant any time soon. With the lack of information out there regarding pregnancy and resveratrol I don't believe it is worth the risk.
Check with your doctor if you are unsure.

I just turned 29 years old and started taking Resveratrol 3 days ago. My reasons for trying it are primarily hopes for:
1. A small amount of weight loss (5-7 lbs) and muscle gain. Over the past year I've gained a little weight despite keeping up a good workout routine. I believe my metabolism is slowing down, so I am hoping to kick start it.
2. Improved skin - I've just started getting some lines on my forehead and around and my eyes and hope to slow this natural aging process.
3. Improved health in later age. I hope that Resveratrol does in fact help prevent certain diseases so that I might reach old age in a healthier state.
I hope this helps answer your question Markus! I really appreciate this site. I do have a couple questions for you if you don't mind:
1. What have you heard about the Resveratrol Ultra supplement (that's what I'm taking)? It's 50% in purity and 250mg per day. Do you think that's effective enough?
2. I noticed that based on some of your posts, after 3 months, you lost 8 lbs and gained muscle. Did you change your workout routine at all during this period? Does some weight loss and muscle gain seem like a common positive effect from what you've heard?
Thanks!

Hi Becky,
I really appreciate you sharing this information.
In regards to the weight loss and muscle gain, you are correct I was able to produce both those results. Now I don't think it was the resveratrol alone but a combination of diet, consistent training, and resveratrol. My opinion is the resveratrol helps to "activate" metabolism via the Sirt1 gene it triggers. So during a workout we get an extra "internal" boost so to speak.
I have actually put back on about 10lbs (I bottomed at 16lbs of weight loss) but it was intentional and slow going. I have been wanting to gain muscle mass so I have been eating a lot of proteins and carbs mainly from fruits. I have actually been able to maintain a lower body fat % on this diet. Is that because of the resveratrol? I am not positive but I do think it plays a role.
Just keep in mind if you are looking to increase muscle then you can't really focus on your weight any more. You would be better off having your body fat measured once a month instead of tracking weight. Muscle weighs about 3x's that of fat and while you can lose fat you may actually gain some weight. In my opinion it's good weight to gain.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if I can help you with anything else at all.

I am a 49 yr old female in good shape, run and lift weights 3-4 days a week; looking simply to maintain muscle mass and stay fit. I started a 6-day a week high protein, weight-training and cardio routine at the age of 40 and gained muscle and lost 4 dress sizes from weight gained during child bearing years as well as simply due to older age. Nine years later and after taking a few years off to attend graduate school, am looking for additional ways to stay fit and firm as I approach my golden years and recently heard that resveratrol helped in the reduction of cellulite which was my initial goal. I had been a regular user of ephedra for energy for running, and therefore am used to the slight jitters caused by Rez-V from Biotest Labs. This is a fantastic product for energy and the only adjustment I had to make was to stop taking it at nite with the rest of my supplements due to insomnia (didn't read this blog before consuming). Only problem now is that I am taking Acai w/green tea extract in the morning and the last few days wound up with a major caffeine buzz mid-day, so gave up the AM Red Bull and am sticking with Rez-V but dropping down to 400 mg from 600 (Biotest recommended dosage). I have only been on Rez-V for 10 days but will know more results by the end of the month. I have had none of the other "negative" side effects mentioned, but will be interested to see how 4 or more weeks affects my endurance while running & weight training as well as increased skin quality. Will keep you posted. Great blog!!

I have started this anti-aging journey a couple of days ago, looking for the best suppliments and skin care. I am a 41 year old mother of 3 and the wrinkles and puffiness in the eye area are really showing.
As I was researching, I came across a skin care product called "Merlot". I like the product because it is natural but as I continued to research for a better anti-aging cream for the eye area, I came accross Resveratrol by "Finest Natural" and started to take it today. After getting online, the internet is telling me the best one's are the most expensive one's you need to order and be billed monthly for. I am so confused with all that is out there and I am seeking some help for less expensive products.

Joelette -
I think the people telling you the best products are available only on-line are trying to sell you something - literally.
For the past 3 months I've taken New Vitality's 'Red Defense' resveratrol + pomegranate. I ordered it on-line, I don't think it is available in stores. It contains a total of 140mg resveratrol with 70mg being trans-resveratrol. It cost about $30 for 30 capsules.
I recently switched to ReserveAge Trans-Resveratrol available from Vitamin Shoppe (like a GNC, avail on-line too). It comes in 100mg, 250mg, and 500mg. The 100mg product actually contains 200mg of resveratrol with 100mg being the trans form, and costs about $20 for 60 capsules.
A co-worker gets his resveratrol from Sam's Club.
At one time on-line may have been the only place to get Resveratrol products, but that is just not true anymore.
