My Personal Cholesterol Experience (Cholesterol Series: Part 3)
Writing this blog has benefited me in ways I did not imagine when I decided to start it. Taking the time to research topics has been extremely educational and keeps me looking forward to what I might find next.
Researching cholesterol hasn't been any different. It's an important topic that becomes even more so because high cholesterol is something that affects my life, my family members lives, and I am sure many of you out there. This research has been educational and eye opening.
I mentioned in my first post on cholesterol I never really spent much time learning about it. I always put it off or just let my doctor manage it without really knowing why or what high cholesterol was all about. Well, that is different now! I now have a foundation of knowledge and hope you do as well.
My personal cholesterol experience:
Growing up my parents really never focused much on our diet. We ate what we wanted, when we wanted, with little regard for what was in our food. I can't blame them for this because that is how they were brought up (actually much worse) and information was sparse compared to today. As I grew into my teens "cholesterol" was making its way into the main stream. You would hear about it in the news, see commercials for drugs, and see screening centers start to pop-up around town. I also heard more and more family members discussing it and I knew it was a problem in our family history.
However, it wasn't until my mid-20's that I got my first cholesterol test. The test showed I had a total cholesterol level of over 300. I am not sure the particulars other then my doctor immediately put me on Lipitor to help bring that number down. (I am hoping to get this test in my hands and if I do I'll post it) Well, it worked! Within a few months my cholesterol levels went down to under 180.
Prior to taking resveratrol my cholesterol levels were as follows:
Total Cholesterol = 127
HDL = 43
LDL = 56
Triglycerides = 138
The question is... now that I am taking both trans-resveratrol and a lipid have my levels changed?
I've called the doctor to schedule an appointment to discuss my resveratrol usage and also to get a new blood test. I am hoping to have the results back by the end of next week. I am also hoping to have my previous tests scanned and added to this site so people can see the results and also see what test results look like to become familiar with them.
As for my diet and activity level they have both remained the same since starting resveratrol. I am hoping this gives us a good idea as to whether or not trans-resveratrol has any affect on our different cholesterol levels. Of course everyone's body is different so until large amounts of people are studied it will be difficult to tell for sure.
Live Longer,
Markus
